Excavations carried out on the estate of Roma Vecchia, Caffarella, Quadraro, Anzio
From 1809 to approximately 1829, numerous findings were made thanks to the intense excavation activity promoted by Prince Giovanni Torlonia within the estate of Roma Vecchia, a large suburban dwelling that housed the remains of famous ancient sites, such as those of the Villa dei Quintili and the Villa di Massenzio, on the Appian Way, and the Villa dei Settebassi on the Via Latina. Particularly fruitful were the excavations carried out between 1827 and 1828 in the area of Anzio and on the estates of Caffarella and Quadraro, whose precious finds were brought to Palazzo Bolognetti (then Torlonia), later to be housed in the Torlonia Museum.
